Short Giraffe Post 9: Gamesfest and why I love my job
Going to Champlain’s Gamesfest to help show off Short Giraffe was a ton of fun. It was nice to see the other Champlain games that also happened to be there, from the other senior games to the junior games to even some alumni games. Aside from mingling around with others and helping set up our booth, I helped show off Short Giraffe to the public outside of Champlain College for my first official time and it was a ton of fun. We had people of all ages give our game a try. Gandalf the Grey (a dev showing off a game about magic) came over to try our game and thought it was really cool and was fascinated by it. He was not the only one though, we had many people come by who were equally intrigued by it.
The most rewarding part though was having little kids who had never seen the game come away from our game smiling. I wasn’t expecting a little girl who had made her rounds through the convention center only to come back to play Short Giraffe four times. I even helped an even younger girl who couldn’t even read play the game and she was a natural! To me the best part was just the rush of people playing and enjoying the game. While we didn’t win any awards at our time did, congrats to the junior team who did win.
